Supporting Community Through Food, Care, and Collective Action

Turning Kitchen Access into Community Impact

Our Commons Kitchen Cares is a community meal support initiative established through Fourth Plain Community Commons to help meet the growing need for coordinated food support across our community by funding access to the kitchen space and operational resources necessary for charitable meal preparation and distribution.

This initiative was created to ensure that when individuals, families, or vulnerable populations are in need, our community has the resources and infrastructure to respond in meaningful and timely ways.

At its heart, this initiative helps transform the FPCC Kitchen from a place of business into a vehicle for direct community care.

Fueling Meals for People Who Need Them

Funds raised through Our Commons Kitchen Cares directly support kitchen access for local food business owners, volunteers, and community partners who donate their time and talent to prepare healthy meals for underserved populations including our houseless neighbors as well as individuals and families supported through organized meal train efforts during times of hardship, illness, recovery, or crisis.

Community care requires more than compassion, it requires capacity.

While many individuals and organizations are willing to serve, access to licensed kitchen space, equipment, and operational resources can often become a barrier that limits how quickly and effectively support can happen.

Our Commons Kitchen Cares removes those barriers by covering the overhead costs of preparing meals in a safe, professional, health-compliant kitchen.

That means community-led efforts can happen without placing the financial burden on the people doing the work.

By supporting this initiative, donors are not simply helping provide meals, they are helping sustain the infrastructure that makes responsive, dignified service possible.

Contributions to Our Commons Kitchen Cares help provide:

  • Kitchen access for charitable and volunteer-led meal preparation

  • Support for local food entrepreneurs assisting with outreach meal efforts

  • Healthy meal preparation for houseless and underserved community members

  • Fulfillment of meal train requests for families experiencing hardship or crisis

  • Facility overhead including utilities, sanitation, and equipment usage

  • Operational support to coordinate and sustain meal-based response efforts

Our Commons Kitchen Cares strengthens our collective ability to care for one another in real and practical ways.

With sustained support, this initiative will help:

  • Increase access to healthy meals for vulnerable populations

  • Improve response capacity for urgent meal-related community needs

  • Support grassroots volunteerism and collaborative outreach efforts

  • Build sustainable systems for long-term food support initiatives

  • Expand the role of shared community resources in neighborhood care

Giving Opportunities

At Fourth Plain Community Commons, we believe strong communities are built when people have the resources to care for one another.

Our Commons Kitchen Cares is an investment in the systems, people, and shared spaces that allow compassion to become action.

Because when community need arises, showing up should never be limited by lack of access.

Help us continue turning kitchen access into community impact.
